Miami is fortunate to be the American host for Art Basel. Art Basel is a premier showcase of Modern and contemporary art held annually in Basel Switzerland, Hong Kong, and Miami. It was initiated by three gallerists in Basel in 1970 and has grown in breadth and scope to be one of the most celebrated and attended exbihitions in the world. Art Basel Miami 2015 will exbihit 267 prominent galleries from North American, Latin America, Europe, Asia, and Africa and on display will be important work from masters of Modern and contemporary art in a variety of mediums. Art Basel Miami takes place in the Miami Beach Convention Center, however the event has spawned a number of significant fairs that coincide with Basel. Art Miami, Design Miami, Scope Art Fair, and a number of other satellite fairs are located in the Design District, Wynwood, and Midtown, drawing hundreds of thousands of visitors and providing stimulus to the local economy. Please note that traffic will be exceptionally heavy during this week and weekend and there is a trolley that will run from the Miami Beach Convention Center to Midtown and Wynwood, in addition to an Uber boat running from the Sunset Harbour Marina to Paraiso Bay. Ride sharing is encouraged!
