In Miami, the first week of December is one of the most exciting times of the year thanks to Art Basel and Art Miami. Art Basel is an annual event that takes place in Miami Beach that showcases premier modern and contemporary art shows. Art Miami is hosted in Midtown. Christie’s International and EWM (a subsidiary of Christies) are sponsors of this event. Both Art Miami and Art Basel bring in over 70,000 art spectators, aficionados and collectors from all over the world. Although Miami is an established city there are still areas that are continuing to develop such as: Design District, Wynwood and Midtown. As a Miami native it is interesting to see new developments, and businesses pop up before my very eyes. While The Design District and surrounding areas continue to develop into one of the most luxurious, art filled communities in Miami, many investors & developers want to further contribute to the emerging art scene. A new project for a 37,500 square foot building will be completed by 2016 and will be the new home for the ICA, which, stands for Institute of Contemporary Art. The land this building will be built on is land donated by the Design District Associates (Craig Robins & L Real Estate). The construction and design of the building will be funded by Norman and Irma Braman. The firm that will design the building will be Aranguren & Gallegos Arquitectos, a firm based in Madrid.
